Fake Supplement Reviews: How to Spot Them Before You Buy
Fake reviews are invented, bought, copied or written without real use, and the FTC rule bans them. Signs include repeated phrases, bursts of posts on one day, dramatic disease stories, hidden payment and profiles with a single review. Check dates, details and disclosure before trusting any score for PureLung or any product.

What counts as a fake review?
The FTC's rule on reviews and testimonials bars fake or false reviews, buying positive reviews, hiding insider ties and selling fake social media followers (FTC, Final Rule Banning Fake Reviews). A fake review is one that misrepresents who wrote it, whether they used the product or what they found.
Fake reviews are common in the supplement category, because buyers cannot check an effect themselves.
Patterns that point to a fake
- Many reviews with the same phrases or sentence order.
- A burst of five-star reviews in a few days after a long gap.
- Reviews that describe a disease "cured" or a result in a set number of days.
- Stock photos or reviewer photos reused across pages.
- A profile with one review, or reviews only for one seller.
- Language that matches the seller's ad copy.
One sign alone is weak, and several together are strong.
Reviews that are real but unreliable
A genuine buyer can still be misled. A placebo effect, a bad week turning good or a seasonal change in breathing can lead a real person to credit a capsule. Free products, discounts or affiliate links should be disclosed (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance). If they are not, the review breaks the rules even if the writer is real.
A review that says a capsule cured a lung disease or replaced medicine is both false and harmful. Do not act on it.

Ask five questions and add one point for each yes.
- Can I see the date and the buyer's identity or verified status?
- Does the review give a concrete detail I could check?
- Does it mention a flaw?
- Is a payment or free product disclosed?
- Is it free of disease claims?
A score under three should carry little weight.
