PureLung and Lung Detox: Why the Word Is Not on the Label

Quick answer

The PureLung label does not say detox or cleanse, and this site does not either. The American Lung Association says there is no evidence that detox products clear the lungs. Lungs clean themselves with mucus and tiny hairs, and the best help is not breathing smoke or polluted air.

Where does the detox idea come from?

Search results are full of lung detox products, teas, drops and sprays. The idea sounds plausible: if smoke or pollution leaves residue, perhaps a supplement can wash it out. It makes a simple story for an advertisement.

It is not a story the evidence supports. The American Lung Association states that there is no scientific evidence that detox or cleanse products work for the lungs (ALA, Can You Detox Your Lungs?).

How lungs actually clear themselves

The airways are lined with mucus and tiny hair-like structures called cilia. Mucus traps particles, and cilia move it upward so you can cough it out or swallow it. This system works all day without any product.

Smoking damages cilia and slows the system, which is why quitting matters more than any capsule. The CDC lists quitting as the best step for lung health (CDC, Tips for Quitting Smoking).

What the PureLung label actually says

The front says Respiratory Support & Lung Health* and uses three softer lines, with an asterisk. It does not say detox, cleanse or repair. When a page that sells or reviews the capsule adds those words, the page has added them, not the label.

A quick test

Search the label image for the words detox, cleanse, repair or flush. You will not find them.

Claims you may see and what to think

Ads for lung products tend to repeat a handful of promises, and each can be checked against what is known.

What can you do instead?

Avoid smoke and vaping, test your home for radon, check the air quality index before outdoor exercise and keep up with exercise and vaccines (ALA, Tips to Keep Your Lungs Healthy). If you want to quit, free help is available at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (Smokefree.gov, Quit Smoking or Vaping).

What does the PureLung label say?

The label shows 60 capsules, a serving of 2 and a 600 mg Proprietary Blend of eleven names with no single amount; it names no disease.

Where this leaves PureLung

PureLung is a capsule with a long blend and no study. It may be bought by anyone who wants to, but not for a detox, because no detox is claimed or shown. Read the lung detox claims page for more.
